Psalm 104:24-34

New International Version

²⁴How many are your works,^(A) Lord!
    In wisdom you made^(B) them all;
    the earth is full of your creatures.^(C)
²⁵There is the sea,^(D) vast and spacious,
    teeming with creatures beyond number—
    living things both large and small.^(E)
²⁶There the ships^(F) go to and fro,
    and Leviathan,^(G) which you formed to frolic^(H) there.^(I)

²⁷All creatures look to you
    to give them their food^(J) at the proper time.
²⁸When you give it to them,
    they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
    they are satisfied^(K) with good things.
²⁹When you hide your face,^(L)
    they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
    they die and return to the dust.^(M)
³⁰When you send your Spirit,^(N)
    they are created,
    and you renew the face of the ground.

³¹May the glory of the Lord^(O) endure forever;
may the Lord rejoice in his works^(P)—
³²he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,^(Q)
who touches the mountains,^(R) and they smoke.^(S)

³³I will sing^(T) to the Lord all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
³⁴May my meditation be pleasing to him,
as I rejoice^(U) in the Lord.

The Tower of Babel

11 Now the whole world had one language^(A) and a common speech. ²As people moved eastward,^[a] they found a plain in Shinar^[b]^(B) and settled there.

³They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks^(C) and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone,^(D) and tar^(E) for mortar. ⁴Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens,^(F) so that we may make a name^(G) for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered^(H) over the face of the whole earth.”^(I)

⁵But the Lord came down^(J) to see the city and the tower the people were building. ⁶The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language^(K) they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. ⁷Come, let us^(L) go down^(M) and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”^(N)

⁸So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth,^(O) and they stopped building the city. ⁹That is why it was called Babel^[c]^(P)—because there the Lord confused the language^(Q) of the whole world.^(R) From there the Lord scattered^(S) them over the face of the whole earth.

Unity and Diversity in the Body

¹²Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body,^(A) so it is with Christ.^(B) ¹³For we were all baptized^(C) by^[a] one Spirit^(D) so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free^(E)—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.^(F) ¹⁴Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.^(G)

¹⁵Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. ¹⁶And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. ¹⁷If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? ¹⁸But in fact God has placed^(H) the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.^(I) ¹⁹If they were all one part, where would the body be? ²⁰As it is, there are many parts, but one body.^(J)

²¹The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” ²²On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, ²³and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, ²⁴while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, ²⁵so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. ²⁶If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

²⁷Now you are the body of Christ,^(K) and each one of you is a part of it.^(L)
